Shou Sugi Ban is an ancient Japanese technique that preserves wood by charring it. Traditionally used for exterior siding using Sugi (Japanese Cedar), UHURU has applied this method to furniture for the unique look and texture that the elemental process of charring provides. Finished with a non-toxic, plant-based oil, the resultant stools speak to the timelessness of the Shou Sugi Ban method and pay homage to its status as one of the earliest methods of wood preservation.
