Account Manager

Job Summary

UHURU Design seeks an Account Manager to support our expanding Business Development operations in New York. An Account Manager is responsible for managing the customer experience from sale through project completion and beyond. The ideal candidate will have a background in a professional customer service environment in the design and interiors realm, be highly organized, driven and have strong communication skills. Reporting to Uhuru’s Business Development Director, the Account Manager ensures that clients receive customer service beyond expectations and that new clients are prospected and brought in to further the growth of the company. This position is based at our Headquarters in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Job Description

  • Research accounts to understand their industry, business priorities and objectives and competition
  • Communicate value propositions of UHURU product and service offerings to qualified leads
  • Conduct presentations and meetings, both formal and informal, to key clients
  • Utilize peer-to-peer networking and social media to make connections with key stakeholders and protects accounts from competition
  • Develop/own the account and opportunity strategy
  • Provide insights to key stakeholders/mobilizers that will make a case for change or help them realize a need through demand generation
  • Work with the customer to understand, develop and bring consensus on the business need
  • Influence and/or respond to the customer to make a decision to purchase or expand our solution
  • Develop/build volume within assigned accounts
  • Conduct all sales activities and processes within the parameters of the UHURU Sales process, utilizing corporate tools/resources provided
  • Maintain CRM information so Sales Leadership can accurately complete monthly forecasts of expected sales volume, by account, by product line
  • Manage within assigned expense budget
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Marketing, Business Administration or related field-equivalent level of experience considered
  • 3+ years of selling experience in furniture and/or design, preferably including experience within the contract furniture industry
  • Must have a love for new ideas and a passion for the sales process with an understanding of its foundations, actively seeking opportunities, calculating risks, and committing to action
  • Selling skills, e.g. new business development, account penetration, strategic/conceptual/consultative selling, negotiation, and contracts, as well as the ability to think strategically and execute tactics
  • Must have strong organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to collaborate and negotiate
  • Must be an assertive, self-starter with the self- confidence and ability to represent UHURU in a professional manner in order to gain a high level of confidence from a diverse group of customers
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced/changing environment and able to build long-term relationships with customers/partners, particularly at senior decision-making levels within an organization
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication ability with strong emphasis on listening
  • Demonstrate high personal performance standards, the desire and ability to continuously learn and must be results-oriented
  • Demonstrate high level of integrity and business ethics
  • Must be financially literate and possess business acumen
  • Ability to effectively use office automation, communication, software and tools used by UHURU
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
  • MS Office skills, particularly, MS Excel, required
  • AutoCAD skills a plus
  • Foreign language skills a plus*
